This year I will be sharing brief excerpts from the articles, sermons, and books I am currently reading. My posts will not follow a regular schedule but will be published as I find well-written thoughts that should be of interest to maturing Christian readers. Whenever possible, I encourage you to go to the source and read the complete work of the author.

Aliens In Today’s Western World

Dinesh D'Souza

Quoting Dinesh D’Souza:

The effort by secularists to teach our children hostility to religion, and specifically to Christianity, is especially strange considering that Western civilization was built by Christianity. Don’t take my word for it. This, from the world’s leading social theorist, Jurgen Habermas:

Christianity and nothing else is the ultimate foundation of liberty, conscience, human rights and democracy, the benchmarks of Western civilization. We continue to nourish ourselves from this source. Time of Transitions

The problem is not that our young people know too much about Christianity, but that they know too little. In America we do not have the problem of the Muslim madrassas, where only the Koran is studied. Rather, we live in a religiously illiterate society in which the Bible is rarely taught. Consequently many people in America and the West cannot name five of the Ten Commandments or recognize Genesis as the first book of the Bible. There’s no point in even asking about the meaning of the Trinity. One in ten Americans apparently believes that Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife. Ignorance of this kind has made many Westerners aliens in their own civilization, as they no longer know the literature, history, and philosophy that made the West the civilization it is today. The Long Term Effects Of Secularism

Quoting Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse:

We cannot sustain ourselves economically because the Western democracies are committing financial suicide with federal spending and entitlement programs that they then push off onto future generations instead of paying today.

We in the democratic West are also committing demographic suicide by having so few children that we are not replacing ourselves, therefore reducing the size of the future generations we hope will pay our bills.

And let’s not even consider the problem of multiculturalism, which teaches that our own civilization is no better and probably worse than any other. This ideology robs us of the confidence to instill our core values in the next generation.

By contrast, the Christian version of Western civilization had no trouble sustaining itself in each of these areas. It is an open question whether exclusive secularism can sustain itself.

The Reason For A Lost Generation

Many might ask, “Why are Americans rapidly forgetting their foundation and why does that foundation matter so much?” Our schools have left instruction in Western Civilization behind for a long time now. The recipients of our nation’s strong underpinnings, now being mostly ignorant of our constitution and the beliefs that made it possible, spend their time redefining government as they go along with no standard to guide them and rejecting the belief system that built Western Civilization. In case you do not know: Western Civilization in general and America in particular was built on Judeo-Christian values. Those values were the foundation and governing principle of every area of life – including government, business, and family. These values were predominant throughout the American culture. Government was of the people. American citizens could pursue happiness in part by the liberty of choosing how to make a living. The Judeo-Christian principles taught Americans to work hard, keep contracts, treat employees fairly, pay an honest day’s wage, and to keep their promises. A prosperity unknown in former times followed from these foundational teachings.

All Must Submit To Islam

9/11

It is well documented that Iran was founded on the principles of Islamic Totalitarianism and is a full-fledged militant Islamic theocracy. Iran is also a leading supporter of the terrorist groups Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah. The next leading state supporter of Islamic Totalitarianism is Saudi Arabia. It has spent more than seventy-five billion dollars to promote the Wahhabi sect of Islam. The Wahhabi sect inspires legions of Islamic Totalitarians, including Osama Bin Laden. What is the purpose of these disciples of Islamic Totalitarians? Yaron Brook and Alex Epstein write:

To conjure up the emotions we felt on 9/11, many intellectuals claim, is dangerous, because it promotes the “simplistic” desire for revenge and casts aside the “complexity” of the factors that led to the 9/11 attacks. But, in fact, the desire for overwhelming retaliation most Americans felt after 9/11—and feel rarely, if ever, now—was the result of an objective conviction: that a truly monstrous evil had been perpetrated, and that if the enemies responsible for the 9/11 attacks were not dealt with decisively, we would suffer the same fate (or worse) again.

After 9/11, our leaders—seemingly sharing our conviction in the necessity of decisive retaliation—promised to do everything possible to make America safe from terrorist attack. . . .

To fulfill the promise to defeat the terrorist enemy that struck on 9/11, our leaders would first have to identify who exactly that enemy is and then be willing to do whatever is necessary to defeat him. . . .

Who is the enemy that attacked on 9/11? It is not “terrorism”—just as our enemy in World War II was not kamikaze strikes or U-boat attacks. Terrorism is a tactic employed by a certain group for a certain cause. That group and, above all, the cause they fight for are our enemy.

The group that threatens us with terrorism—the group of which Al Qaeda is but one terrorist faction—is a militant, religious, ideological movement best designated as “Islamic Totalitarianism.” The Islamic Totalitarian movement, which enjoys widespread and growing support throughout the Arab–Islamic world, encompasses those who believe that all must live in total subjugation to the dogmas of Islam and who conclude that jihad (“holy war”) must be waged against those who refuse to do so. Islamic Totalitarians regard the freedom, prosperity, and pursuit of worldly happiness animating the West (and especially America and Israel) as the height of depravity. They seek to eradicate Western Culture, first in the Middle East and then in the West itself, with the ultimate aim of bringing about the worldwide triumph of Islam. This goal is achievable, adherents of the movement believe, because the West is a “paper tiger” that can be brought to its knees by sufficiently devoted Islamic warriors.

No “Honor” In Father Killing Daughter

Chaudhry Rashad was so outraged at his daughter, Sandela Kanwal, and her plans for divorce that he strangled the 25-year-old woman.  This “honor killing” took place over the weekend in Clayton County, Georgia.  Rashad told police that he killed his daughter as a matter of honor, because he felt her plans for divorce would have disgraced the family.

The victim had been forced into an arranged marriage and had not seen her husband for months.  One local Muslim leader said the father murdered the daughter because he was depressed – but, according to the United Nations Population Fund, at least 5,000 women are victims of “honor murders” each year.

Damage to a Muslim daughter’s “honor” is considered a great humiliation to the Muslim cultural-religious tradition of such immigrant families.  Such dishonor comes from the young woman refusing to wear a hijab, having a non-Muslim boyfriend, being sexually active, rejecting arranged marriages, aggressively seeking employment and education, and attempting to assimilate into Western culture.

Residents of Lewisville, Texas were shocked on January 1st to hear about the brutal murder of teenage sisters Sarah and Amina Said. The two Muslim girls were found shot to death in a taxi.  Their father allegedly murdered them in an “honor killing” because the girls were becoming too westernized.  In December, 2007 another honor killing took place in Mississauga, Ontario.  Sixteen-year-old Aqsa Parvez was strangled to death by her Pakistani father who opposed her westernized social life.

Representatives of many Muslim groups in the US and Canada try to downplay the cultural-religious angle of these killings because of their interest in promoting Sharia law here.  Criticism is met with accusations of Islamophobia.  Yet, these are not simple acts of domestic violence like those that take place in all communities. They are specific to Muslim religion and culture.

How long will this oppression of the rights of young Muslim women be allowed to continue in the US?  Why aren’t women’s rights organizations leading the charge to ensure the safety and rights of Muslim women?  Could it be that political correctness and multiculturalism have rendered these organizations impotent on this issue?  How many more young women will have to die here before Muslim immigration into the U.S. is reconsidered and tighter screening policies enacted?

How are we going to respond to the “honor murders” of Muslim girls in America and other Western nations?  Consider some of the victims: Banaz Mahmood, Hatin Surucu , Aqsa Parvez , Caneze Riaz, 39, and her four daughters, Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 15, Alicia, 10, and Hannah, 3, Tahira Bibi, Samaira Nazir, Hina Salem, Methal Dayem, Sazan Bajez-Abdulluh , Rudayena Jemael, Hesha Yones, Souad, Ibtihaz Hasoun , Fadime Sahindal, Zahida Peeveen, Ghazala Khan.
