For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12 ESV)
There are always people who think they are smarter than the Word of God. They believe they have evolved intellectually far beyond the men and women who lived in centuries past. They disregard the Bible as an ancient book written by a primitive people. Some, who claim to be Christians, believe the Gospel needs to be modernized to give it more relevance to contemporary life.
While many ignore the Bible, others try to bring it “up to date” by inserting false teachings; delivered by deceitful men who bring destruction upon themselves and those who follow them. (2 Peter 2:1 ESV) They relativize and suppress truth in order to avoid living under the rule of God. (Romans 1:18-20)
Christians, however, have been saved by grace through faith. They are sanctified in truth through the washing of the Word of God. (Ephesians 5:26 ESV & John 17:17 ESV) Believers desire to present themselves to God as those who rightly handle the Word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV)
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6 ESV)
When people are Christians, they live by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4 ESV) They believe the Bible is beneficial for teaching, correction and training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV) Therefore, they treasure the Scriptures in their hearts that they may be sanctified by God’s Word. The words found in the Bible are life to those who believe. For faith comes through the word of Christ (Romans 10:17 ESV) and eternal life is in His words.
The Bible is trustworthy. It is God’s authoritative Word. God understands the true needs of human beings and reveals through the Scriptures how we should live. We need daily spiritual nourishment from its pages. If you are too busy to read the Bible; you are too busy. When was the last time you made a plan for daily Bible reading or are you so smart that you don’t need the Bible?
