About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. (Hebrews 5:11-14 ESV)
The author of Hebrews offers us this warning: “About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.” The teacher finds himself limited because those being addressed are spiritually immature and lack understanding. They may be like the seed sown in shallow ground in Matthew 13. It sprouts quickly, but there are no roots. They claim to know Christ but lack the knowledge of His teachings.
We have many Hebrews 5 people in our churches today. They have listened to the message of Christ long enough that they should be able to teach it. However, their “dull hearing” confines them to “milk,” and not “solid food.” They must learn over and over, the “basic principles of the oracles of God.” Continue reading
