The Associated Press has reported that evangelist Franklin Graham’s invitation to speak at a Pentagon prayer service on the May 6th National Day of Prayer has been canceled because of comments he made years ago about Islam.
Graham, the son of evangelist Billy Graham, in 2001 described Islam as “evil.” He has said that he wants Muslims to know that Jesus Christ died for their sins. Army spokesman Col. Tom Collins said Graham’s remarks were “not appropriate.” A group called the Military Religious Freedom Foundation had raised objections to Graham’s appearance.
Mrs. James (Shirley) Dobson, chairwoman of the prayer task force for the National Day of Prayer has issued a statement calling on the American people to defend the right to pray in the Pentagon.
