  1. I agree with your comments. I recorded a BBC Documentary a few years ago showing research on the “conveyor belt” ocean current that runs from Southern African oceans around Britain and keeps Britain and northern Europe warm. It showed that the conveyor was in danger of stopping because the relatively warm fresh water from melting ice in Greenland was reducing the effect of very cold water dropping to the ocean floor off Greenland, and sucking the warm water from Africa up north and returning it to South Africa. If the conveyor stops Europe will go back into an ice age.
However the really big picture for Australia is getting water to our inland agricultural areas. The population in Australia has settled on and built cities on the fertile soils and high rainfall areas of the Australian coastline, pushing agriculture into the low rainfall more arid inland. It is urgent that we start getting the coastal water inland as well as improving water use in agricultural areas. This can be done pumping the surplus stormwater and sewage waters inland for agriculture and using desalination for drinking water in the cities to supplement water stored in tanks on peoples homes.
This is an individual problem as well as a National problem. Peoples homes have to become mini water storages and solar electricity generators as soon as possible. Writing off inland country reas because the cities are grabbing all the water is not an option. The world is already short of food and we need to be able to feed ourselves.
