Tired Of High Gas Prices?
What happened to the lower gas prices that the secular progressives promised us if they were elected to Congress in 2006? The demand for oil has increased in other nations such as India and China. This demand has driven oil prices up and the only way to bring them back down is to increase the production of supply. Global oil production is simply not keeping up with the increasing demand.
Our Congress keeps complaining that other countries, especially in the Middle East, should increase their oil production. Do they really believe that the Arab oil countries are going to come to our rescue? At the same time, our Congress has blocked every attempt to increase our oil production at home.
Congress has repeatedly blocked oil exploration in ANWR. This area could produce a million barrels of oil a day. This would mean a 20% increase in our oil supply that would be directly under the control of the US. Include additional off shore drill sites around the continental US and we could become energy independent. But Congress repeatedly blocks off shore drilling as well.
We also have high gas prices because we lack new refining capacity. Our country has not built a new refinery in 30 years. Why? Because the secular progressives in Congress, influenced by the environmental lobby, have also consistently blocked the construction of new refineries in the US. Does this sound like Congress really wants you to have cheap gas? Does this really sound like Congress wants us to be energy independent?
During this election year, the politicians we voted into office to lower the price of gas in 2006, are busy pointing fingers at everyone but themselves. They are even discussing freezing gasoline prices because they say the big bad oil companies are making too much money. Apple Computer’s percentage of profit, however, is greater than the oil companies. Yet, I do not hear anyone suggesting we should freeze the prices of Apple Computer products.
As stated previously, the only way to drive down oil prices is to increase production. In order for this to happen, we need our Congress to support drilling in ANWR and off shore. Congress needs to ignore the radical environmental lobby and start representing all Americans. Congress listened to the tree huggers about ethanol and now we have inflated supermarket prices and a product that is neither efficient nor does it result in the decrease of carbon emissions.
If you want lower energy prices, tell Congress to get out of the way of drilling and building refineries. We also need to place term limits on US Senators and Congressman in order to prevent various special interest’s lobbies from gaining too much influence through reelection campaign contributions.
